Happy new year to everyone! I can’t believe we’re almost a decade through the 21st century. 8 years has gone by like a blur. A couple of days ago, I was up till 2am (that’s what the holidays do to you. You’re up at crazy hours!) reading through my past entries in my old blog. Reading through my entries from 2004, I couldn’t believe the changes I’ve gone through. I had a great time through all your comments of how you wished us well for 2006 then 2007 then 2008 and now, 2009! Yaiks!
I was going to make a list of new year’s resolutions (not that I’ve done one in years!) but having visited Shai and Sinta’s sites encouraged me to make a list of personal goals for this year instead of resolutions.
IMHO, resolutions are more behavioural in nature and harder to measure compared to goals which are easier to ‘interpret’ improvements and changes. For anything behavioural that I want to improve, I prefer to keep it in my private journal.
So, without further ado, here are my goals for the year which I am hoping are easy enough to achieve:
- Having booked a 1-year membership to a local gym late in 2008, work out at least 4x a week.
- Blog in MrsG’s Other Life at least 3x a week.
- Build more traffic on my pro blogs, Our One Heart and Mad Cropper
- Blog hop at least once a day.
- On the business front, make at least 1 prospecting call to a potential client a week.
- On the family front, keep Saturday a day of relaxation — no blogging, no work. Focus on self and spending quality time with family and friends.
- Go rock climbing at least once a week
- Join a class or group for self-improvement and growth.
- Travel overseas (for a holiday!) at least once a year. This year, we’re going to US/Canada
- Go out on a date with MrG at least once a fortnight.
I know the list seems too easy but believe me, after the busy-ness of 2008, all of the things I listed above are a challenge for me. Almost everyone I know told me to slow down and not work too hard. I realised I have been so focused on the business side of my life that I haven’t really spent much time on things that matter to me as well — like my family, my friends and most especially myself.
So while I intend to work harder than ever, I also plan to try to relax as much and work on the other aspects of my life that I have neglected a bit in 2008.
What about you? What are your personal goals for the year?
Happy happy joy joy!

Hi Justice — you are a survivor, girl! Bilib ako sa ‘yo!
You’re so right! One time I also read what I’ve been through the past years. The highs and lows. And I couldn’t believe how I survived them all.
Thank goodness for great people who were always there no matter what and never judging.
Hi *Sinta* — I’ve started going rock climbing a few weeks back. The first climb I ever did scared me to death. I didn’t realise I was afraid of heights till I was at the very top! But the subsequent climbs were better but my arms and legs were stiff as a board right after each climbing session :-0
Happy New Year to you too hun! I know what you mean about reading old blog entries
I’ve read some of mine from a few years back and all I want to do is reach over and slap that young girl silly! You have some great goals there! Glad to know I’m not the only one trying to get more sporty. Can’t wait to hear about your rock climbing adventures. I get terrified of heights, but I’d like to conquer it.
