I think everyone living in Christchurch will agree with me that Hanmer Springs is one of the more popular spots for recreation in our fair island.

Hanmer Springs

Happy times: On my 30++ birthday (2009) with family & friends

So….

it shouldn’t surprise anyone who know us why on one of the rare pleasantly warm Saturdays in this blasted summer season, our little family headed off to Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools Resort.

We go to Hanmer Springs once or twice every couple of months (yes, even in the winter months!) as it’s the perfect place to unwind. The hot pools are actually the best place to go in the winter methinks.

This little town of Selwyn District is witness to a number of our wedding anniversary and other family (including my birthday last year!) celebrations. It is indeed a very special place for us.

Because it is a Saturday, we didn’t get to leave till just before lunch as we had to wait for Bea’s violin lessons and orchestra practice to finish. If you know me, it wouldn’t also surprise you that when MrG and Bea got home from the lessons in town, I was still not ready (what’s new?). I don’t think we headed off to Hanmer till about close to 1pm!

If you are new to or visiting Christchurch and you plan to go to Hanmer Springs for the day, the perfect lunch stop that we could recommend would definitely be Nor’wester Cafe in Amberley. Their food is just divine!

We didn’t get to the Resort till about sometime past 3pm. We didn’t mind. It’s not as if we had anything to rush home for that night PLUS the day is long and won’t get dark till after 8.00pm.

The day was absolutely gorgeous. I’m sorry to be going on and on about the weather. It’s just that this summer season has been the most atrocious and unsettled one I’ve experienced since migrating to New Zealand in early 2002 and even though I was born and had lived in the tropics for the first 28 years of my life, I still miss the sun, the warmth.

Can you believe it? I was diagnosed with mild to severe Vitamin D deficiency late last year due to lack of sun exposure! Anyway, I digress.

MrG and Bea were their usual goofy selves. Here they are trying to see if they could join New Zealand’s Synchronized Swimming Team.

Synchronized Swimming - Attempts

Ummm, maybe not.

Synchronized Swimming - final attempt

No…not really. I don’t think these two will even get a look-see. And as Bea says all the time (apart from “Oh My God!”), this is an #epicfail

And no hun, I don’t think you’re the next Michael Phelps as yet.

Really thought MrG and Bea’s 1st attempt was promising-hahaha… the farther down I went with the pics the more laughs I belted.
That’s a great place to go to… really wish we have one in here… we would definitely need one- I might end up digging at the back garden.
